BED AND BREAKFAST TIPS

Bed and breakfasts are mainly owner-operated some are run by innkeepers.  As you are predominantly staying in someone's home, their valuables are usually heirlooms and antiques that cannnot be replaced.  This is why B&B's are so special.

Each B&B has its own set of rules on arrivals/departure times, children, pets (even horses) etc.  Also some B&B's close their doors to the public in low season so it is important to check these things out before you set off.

Lots of B&B's have sitting rooms for guests or a TV in your bedroom.  You usually have tea and coffee making facilities in your room.  It is not uncommon to be asked by your host to join them for the evening!

Always ask prior to booking what amenities are available, for example, WIFI, baby items, bicycles, beach chairs, towels etc.

The personal attention you get at a B&B is much warmer than staying at a hotel, I promise you that once you start; you will ALWAYS fit those little getaways in from then on.

Breakfast is always a lovely treat!  Unless otherwise specified you will receive a full cooked breakfast to enjoy with the other guests. Dietary requests should be made apparent on booking.  Your host will have  good knowledge of the activities, places of interest, best restaurants and best pubs in their area and are always happy to help you with your itinerary.

Other meals are usually on request.  Sometimes hosts will make up a packed lunch for you if you ask. You should again find out in advance as some B&B's have Breakfast only policies.

Very few homes are licensed to sell alcohol, but are generally happy for you to provide your own wine to have with a meal for example.

Most B&B's have ample parking in the countryside.

Some B&B's are historic buildings, so if you are lucky enough to stay in one, ask about its history and you will be enriched with the quality of  knowledge your host has to offer.  Be sure to put up pictures and write about your favourite B&B's!  Help spread the word!
